I. IMPROMPTUS by Solomon S. Drogin

52. A Retrospection

Intent bent on other things
He stopped and spoke with her
Of many cares did they converse
A relief to talk to one as she

Why?

Omit her feminine parts
	Retain womanly characteristics
With their insight into the kernel
Going beneath the surface of actions
To examine you and to help you
	As you yourself appraise
Is it not worth then, mortal man
To stop and talk with one as she

Why?

	Again.

Yesterday on edge was he
As the glands poured forth their dole
Relief was the cry of his soul
Even as it is now in misery

She had sent him from her arms
Was she aware of her doing
A woman to hold him caring
To stifle her deadly, lifeless charms

Strings atugging at his heart
	What was pulling him there?
Did he for his beloved bear
A love, a like to that of the start.

Almost a year, he court had paid
	But what was happening now
That his palm holds his brow
And smiles from his face fade

He was learning to cry
Where before he had laughed

Sweet, bitter memories has he
	Never can he be relieved
Tho his heart him deceived
As he travels le chemin de vie.

But 'tis common trash that
	Which a troubled mind pens
Of a body that sins
To study ought I be rapt

Alone is he in a group
	Whose noise his ears assail
What care I, his wail,
	And the mob becomes moot

Time alone can heal thee
But not to forget thy deeds
As you followed out your life's leads
That I leave you is best for me

Tears have flown, washing him clean
His fate, resolved, he moves on
