74. The Plea Again

Long did he labor
	Praying that no obstacle
Should interfere with joy
	Of welcoming the new year

A brief respite granted
	Her voice happy heard he
Cheered him anew to toil
	Prayers redoubled in strength

"All subs" cried the "supe"
	Dash did he for his coat
The subways, darn 'em
	Were slow, he helpless was.

Destination achieved
	Happily, joyfully, lively
Greeted she him that
	Labor weariness left him

And so, dear maid
	I sing on, and again
Of life, of love, of work
	I want to live.

I want her to live
	I want too her love
Everything my desire is
	Ah, can I but have all?
