When the world is as sad
As a young man is sad, as only his sadness can be.
When the world is as gay
As a young man is gay and as wild and as careless and free,
When the world can sit down to the desk
And read what a young man reads to his girl
The world will learn what no man learns, the young man least of all.

For a young man's laugh is inside himself
And outside are his fears
While the world's laugh is long and loud
And inside, nothing but tears.
