GENERATIONS Copyright (C) 1997 by Not Nice Music II. A COLLECTION OF OBSCURITY by Edwin M. Drogin 37. Untitled The rain has a purpose on wide streets. It clears them for the posts. It is empty and slick and the few who walk aid that. It is wet and glistening And at night Dark, and quiet, and the wideness is a stamp of promised civilization... held back by the thin, weak, constraint of a freak time And an uncivilized elemental outburst. Childish in its enthusiasm Childish in its briefness. A poet's child. No women walk, wide, wet, streets. The stores are closed. No way has been figured to do away with totalitarian time. It is free to conspire with the revolt of rain. Wanted on the prairies-with purpose on wide streets.
