GENERATIONS Copyright (C) 1997 by Not Nice Music II. A COLLECTION OF OBSCURITY by Edwin M. Drogin 62. Lullaby When you're standing by the window looking out upon the street, Can you stand the scurrying people with their hurried frightened feet? Can you look upon the street lights, with their flashing red and green, And think that you are gazing on a still and quiet scene? When you're reading in the paper about war, and strife, and hate, Can you sit beside the fire and quietly meditate? Can you sit beside the radio and listen to its tale of woe, And think the weather's nice outside tho' it looks a bit like snow. Then are you this person with a smile upon his lips, Who can play at war and sailing ships? Who in the midst of terror and despair, Can laugh with a music so soothing to the ear. You are my soul, my god. The first on any list. All is not lost when you are here. You are the optimist. Too bad that most of you are the youngest of this earth. The animals and children. God knows what you are worth. At least a wooden nickel, perhaps two Maybe a Russian ruble, black and blue. You are, my wise one, just a perfect dope And if you survive, let's give up all hope.
