COVID-19: NYC Quote of the Day 2020-07-06

Monday, July 6, 2020, NYC Mayor de Blasio - Excluding People from States

Question: The idea of excluding people from states where COVID is very high – are there any real moves to enforce that? Is there anything that the NYPD is doing, the Port Authority Police, or is this all sort of a theory at this point?

Mayor: No, it can't just be a theory. It has to come to life. This is a new world for us to figure out on a regular basis, because we're going to be at this for a long time, how we are going to identify anyone who comes from around our own country. It has to involve the Port Authority Police because they're in the best position to act on folks coming in through the airports, for example, but what I think would work – and we're going to work with the State on this – is to get from the State, the names and contact information of anyone that comes in from one of the states with the biggest problems, and then use our Test and Trace Corps to follow up with them the same day and make sure they understand the rules of quarantine, make sure they have everything they need to stay safe, and keep everyone else safe.
